Join The Laurelhurst Club as it dances into it's 99th year!!!
September 17th marked the kick off of our 99th year, for this fun loving couples dance club,presided over by our very hard working President Darlene Harper. If you would like to come join us, grab a dance partner, send us an email, and we will be glad to have you join us for free for one of our upcoming dances in our 2011-2012 dance year. Our dance year includes 17 dances (plus New Years discussed below) and 16 of them our to live music. We have a wonderful mix of dance bands and a great variety of dance themes, some formal, some theme specific like our Western night and our Mardis Gras night.
This Fall we started September 17th with Jim Brown and his Orchestra for a Business Causal Saturday evening with a Birthday Bash theme. Friday September 30th we follow with Marlena Wray and a Gridiron and Pom Pom theme. Friday October 14th was "Vegas" night with David Cooley and his orchestra providing the music. Then came our Halloween Dance with music by Rendezvous Saturday October 29th. November 12th was our first formal with Swing Papillon providing the music for the Moulin Rouge dance. Just eight days later, we had our first Sunday dance with Jim Brown providing the music for this business casual dance with a Forever Autumn theme.
We then took a break from the dancing and instead enjoyed our annual Holiday Wassail Sing-along Sunday December 4th a well attended event open to every one and enjoyed by kids of all ages. :) . Sunday December 11th we were back dancing, this time to the music of Johnny Martin with a Holiday theme.
Next up (drum roll) is our fantastic New Years Ball, where we put on the Ritz, enjoy a fantastic cedar plank salmon or prime rib buffet dinner, followed by the delightful music of the John Bennett Orchestra, a midnight champagne toast and a whole lot more. This is a black tie-party dress affair Saturday 12/31 from 7:30 to 12:30 a.m. at our Clubhouse at 3721 SE Ankeny. All this for just $100 a couple and you know it will sell out, so make your reservations now. The 2012 dances start January 15th with a band TBA followed January 28th by the amazing Dr. T band. We will have more info on our other dances posted soon, but the dates are Febraury 11th and 26th, March 16th and 31st, April 13th and 28th, May 9th and 19th, and our last dance of the 2011-2012 dance year is a Beach Party dance July 22d.
This is a great group of really supportive, really friendly people, that like to dance. Come join the fun. Just let us know you are coming and the name of your dance partner. You just need to email me, Rudy Lachenmeier, the immediate past president, at Rudy@lerlaw.com and I will invite you officially to one of our dances in 2011. Married, single, it doesn't matter, but you must have a dance partner for these dances. You are allowed to come to two dances as our guests while you decide if you wish to join.
